Days 15-18 ~ From MT to ID to WA

Another long drive with flat areas and mountains

Finally made it to the Pacific coast

Spent our first night at Camp Walmart when we couldn't find a campground.

A little hazy

Wall of trees

We were only in Idaho for 30 minutes before entering Washington

This was a typical entrance to a ranch

but the name was unique, being at the end of the road

Neat totem pole in the little town we stayed in

another wooden statue of a snow boarding bear

Wooden statue of Paul Bunyan since we are in a logging town

Sitting Elk

Roaming Elk

Elk roam this town like they own it

They are unimpressed with passing vehicles

And undeterred

Elk just roaming around at will

They are huge, about 2,000#

This one was walking right by our campsite

It looks like our neighbor plans on staying here a while

This was a section of tree that was cut down

An original 1937 tour bus they used to shuttle visitors around

Dry river bed

Hidden waterfall

Where does this water keep coming from?

Waterfall under the bridge

There is a hill here...

No, I guess its a mountain..

The lodge at Mt. Rainier.

Everything is made of logs here including the grandfather clock
We think these are Huckleberries

25 Glaciers remain on this mountain

Just an interesting roof structure inside the lodge

Interesting connection - at least for me.

Flowers were still in bloom

It was a beautiful day

More waterfalls coming out of Mt. Rainier

More flowers

We finally saw a bear, so there is at least one in these mountains

maybe two...

Some of these trees were huge

See the Mini hiding behind the tree?

It was dry but we saw no fires.

More Elk

Moss growing all over this tree

Landslide takes out swath of trees too

This is Mt. St. Helen

A local camper capture the volcano erupt May 18, 1980.

Smog hanging from the wild fires.

Spirit Lake that filled up with lava after the eruption

Mt. St. Helen still has ice on it after the whole summer

Wild fire smog

Is that stream ?

Looks like she's ready to blow

That dark spot used to be a house before the lava flow.

See the line where the mountain was before it erupted

Yes, after we drove as far as we could, we walked (or ran) up 433 steps to elev. 8314'

I'm glad we're not driving the RV on this road, no edge or shoulder.

Back in Packwood, WA with the wooden statues

80 degrees the 1st of Oct in Washington, unbelievable!!!
